February 23, 2022: Prof. Justene Hill Edwards, University of Virginia, delivered a talk on Zoom, 4:00-5:30 pm, entitled, “Slavery, Race, and Capitalism in the Antebellum United States.” Dr. Edwards is the author of the new book Unfree Markets: The Slaves’ Economy and the Rise of Capitalism in South Carolina (Columbia University Press, 2021). This event was arranged by UNC Charlotte history professor and interim chair of Africana Studies, Professor Christopher Cameron, in conjunction with his spring ’22 course on “The Market Revolution” in US history.
